M1 Test Simulator: ON Motorcycle Test Practice (Exam Mode)

  • Based on official 2026 Motorcycle Handbook
  • Updated for July 2026
  • Perfect for M1 licence and full M rider’s licence
  • Triple-checked for accuracy

Are you ready to experience the thrill of riding a motorcycle? Whether you prefer a cruiser or a sports bike, you must obtain a motorcycle licence first. Ontario has specific licensing requirements, which all aspiring riders must follow. The M1 licence is the first step in the province’s graduated licensing system. It allows you to ride under several conditions. You must maintain a zero blood alcohol level at all times, ride only during daylight hours, and wear a helmet. You cannot ride on most roads with speed limits over 80 km/h, and you cannot carry passengers on your motorcycle. To get an M1 licence, you must complete an application, pass a vision test, provide identification documents, pay the testing fees, and pass a 40-question knowledge test.

Available in multiple languages, the official M1 knowledge test contains 20 multiple-choice questions on road signs and 20 on the rules of the road. At least 16 correct answers in each section are required for a passing score. The official Ontario motorcycle handbook is the main reference for aspiring riders like you. You should read its contents at least once, as it helps you understand the basics of riding theory.

Have you always wanted to gain insight into the official testing experience? Now you can familiarize yourself with the content and format of the official M1 knowledge test by using our Ontario M1 practice test. Updated for July 2026, this intuitive tool lets you simulate the official testing experience on your device. You must answer 64 multiple-choice questions and score 80% or higher to pass. If you make too many mistakes, the test ends immediately. There are no assists or hints available for this exam. However, you can use several features from the “Test settings” menu, including answer popularity, keyboard shortcuts, and the voice-over function.

Identify areas that need improvement by visiting your Challenge Bank™ after each session. This section stores the questions you got wrong and includes detailed explanations of the correct answers. To simulate the official testing experience, we recommend refraining from using other resources for inspiration once you begin a session in exam mode. Riding is a lifelong skill, and it cannot be learned overnight. The most determined students increase their learning potential by integrating efficient tools into their optimized study routines. You should adopt a similar approach if you want to pass the official M1 knowledge exam on your first attempt. Study the official motorcycle handbook and train with our other practice tests. When you’re ready, use our M1 Test Simulator to see if you’re ready to become a licensed rider.

Where riders lose marks before M1 exam mode

Based on recent answers across the main Ontario M1 practice pools.

50.9% miss
Following distance and space cushion
Rider safety and risk management - 65,936 recent answers

Review how quickly space disappears on a motorcycle and how traffic changes the safe cushion.

Demerit points, fines and suspensions
M1 licence, fines and responsible riding - 111,338 recent answers

Penalty questions need exact Ontario values and licence-stage consequences, not general safe-riding guesses.

39.4% miss
Lane positioning and blocking position
Motorcycle control and handling - 54,633 recent answers

Check where the motorcycle should sit in the lane when hazards, turns or traffic change visibility.

Before using the M1 simulator

Exam mode is most useful after the rider-specific weak spots are visible.

M1 restrictions come first

Passenger, alcohol, daylight and high-speed-road restrictions can decide the answer before general riding advice.

Space and lane position change with the hazard

The best answer often depends on whether the risk is behind you, beside you, ahead of you or on the road surface.

A simulator miss should point back to a focused set

Repeated penalty, sign or control misses should be repaired on a focused M1 page before another exam-mode run.

How to use the M1 test simulator

Use it as a final readiness check after the main motorcycle practice sets.

1
Complete the three main M1 tests first
Use Test 1, Test 2 and Test 3 before relying on simulator scores.
2
Group misses by rider task
Separate restriction, control, sign and traffic-sharing misses instead of retaking immediately.
3
Return to focused M1 review when needed
Use M1 road signs or M1 fines and limits if simulator misses cluster there.
