FREE M1 Motorcycle Practice Test 2 (Ontario) 2026

  • Based on official 2026 Motorcycle Handbook
  • Updated for May 2026
  • Perfect for M1 licence and full M rider’s licence
  • Triple-checked for accuracy
Ontario’s M1 knowledge test is designed to evaluate your understanding of motorcycling theory, including road signs, rules of the road, and motorcycle-specific information, such as motorcycle handling techniques and group riding.

The M1 knowledge test consists of 64 multiple-choice questions in three sections: 20 questions on road signs, 20 questions on rules of the road, and 24 questions specific to motorcycle riding. All questions are based on the latest versions of the Official Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Driver’s Handbook (for road signs and rules of the road) and the Official Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Motorcycle Handbook (for motorcycle-specific topics). You must be at least 16 years old and pay the Class M1 licence package fee ($78.75) to take the M1 knowledge test.

To pass the M1 knowledge test, you must achieve a score of 80% or better in each section. Failing any section will result in failing the entire M1 test. However, if you retake the test within a year, you will only have to retake the sections that you failed (and pay a $16.00 retest fee).

To obtain an M1 operator’s licence (commonly thought of as a “motorcycle learner’s permit”) in Ontario’s Graduated Licensing System (GLS), you must pass the M1 test. Your M1 licence will allow you to practise motorcycle riding from ½ hour before sunrise to ½ hour after sunset, but not with a passenger and not on most roads with speed limits over 80 km/h.

Our tools complement and work with the Handbooks to ensure you’ll pass the M1 knowledge test on your first try. This is the second of our M1 Practice Tests. It’s up to date as of May 2026 and based on the official handbooks, just like the official test.

If you get stuck on a question, ask our AI Assistant to give you a hint or rephrase the question. You can also ask it your own questions. If you still miss the question, the AI Assistant will immediately give you the correct answer and an explanation.

If you need to study general driving some more, our M1 Motorcycle Road Signs Practice Test will train you on scores of different road signs. And most of the questions on our G1 practice tests can help you learn more about the rules of the road.

Note: The fee amounts cited here are accurate as of February 2025 but are subject to change. The current fees are provided on the DriveTest website here.

Ontario M1 rules to keep separate

This set mixes control questions with licence-stage restrictions.

Lane position is an active safety choice

The best lane position changes with visibility, road surface, traffic and turning direction.

M1 riders cannot carry passengers

Passenger questions should be answered from the M1 restriction first, then from general riding safety.

Cargo changes control

A load must not interfere with balance, steering, braking or visibility.

How to use M1 Test 2

Use it to check whether your mistakes are about control, restrictions or road sharing.

1
Watch for lane-position wording
Those questions often change with traffic, hazards and visibility.
2
Separate licence rules from safety advice
An M1 restriction may decide the answer even when another option sounds safe.
3
Move to M1 Test 3 after review
Use the next set only after lane-position and restriction misses start dropping.
