Our guiding principle: trust through transparency

This page outlines the rigorous editorial process that governs the creation, review, and ongoing maintenance of every practice test on G1.ca. Our mission extends beyond helping you pass your G1 exam - we aim to ensure every learner becomes a safe, confident, and knowledgeable driver on Ontario roads. The process below demonstrates how we maintain the highest standards of factual accuracy, clarity, and educational value.

Our Fact-Checking Process

  • Source Verification: Every test question, hint, and explanation is verified against the most recent edition of the official Ontario Driver's Handbook published by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO). We also reference the Ontario Highway Traffic Act and Ontario Traffic Manual for signs and markings. We never rely on third-party summaries or unofficial publications.
  • Expert Curation and Authoring: All content is written and curated by a team of educational specialists led by our Chief Educational Researcher. Their role is to translate the official handbook into clear, plain-English questions that promote real understanding rather than rote memorization.
  • Final Review: Before publication, each item undergoes a multi-stage review for accuracy, readability, and instructional clarity. This ensures that every test question not only matches the latest Ontario regulations but also functions as an effective learning tool for first-time and ESL learners alike.

How we stay current

Annual Handbook Review

At the start of each calendar year, our editorial team conducts a full audit of the G1 question bank, aligning every item with the newest Ontario Driver's Handbook and MTO-published changes. This annual cycle ensures that every G1.ca question reflects the most current edition year shown on your test pages.

Sources we monitor
  • Ontario Driver's Handbook (Latest MTO Edition)
  • MTO Website and Official Publications
  • Ontario Highway Traffic Act Updates
  • User Feedback and Error Reports

Weekly Review Cadence

Beyond the annual audit, we continuously monitor MTO publications, DriveTest updates, and traffic-law changes every week. This allows us to identify mid-year changes - such as new road signs, revised penalties, or procedural updates - and update affected questions within days. Our weekly review cadence ensures learners are always studying from the same material they'll encounter at the DriveTest centre.

Continuous Feedback Loop

Our "Report a mistake" feature allows any user to flag a potential discrepancy directly from a test page. Each submission automatically includes the question text, answers, hint, and explanation, enabling our editors to review the context instantly. Confirmed corrections are applied promptly and logged internally for tracking.

Our Team of Experts

The G1.ca editorial process is developed and overseen by a multidisciplinary team of experts in driver education, research, and linguistics. The process is led by Steven Litvintchouk, M.S., our Chief Educational Researcher, who holds degrees from MIT and Columbia University and is a member of ACES: The Society for Editing. Our founders, Andrei Zakhareuski and Marina Zakhareuskaya, contribute their background in linguistics and pedagogy to ensure our materials meet both educational and language-accessibility standards.

Together, the editorial team works to uphold the same academic rigor found in traditional publishing - combining factual precision with learner-centered design to make Ontario's driving regulations accessible to every student driver.

Corrections and Feedback Policy

  • How to Report: If you encounter an error or ambiguity in our content, please use the "Report a mistake" link found beneath each question, or email [email protected]. Providing a page link and short description helps us investigate quickly.
  • Review Process: Each report is verified by our editorial team against the latest official sources. If a factual inaccuracy is confirmed, we issue a correction immediately. When official guidance is ambiguous or conflicting, we defer to the most current Ontario Driver's Handbook or Highway Traffic Act.
  • Transparency and Timeliness: All verified corrections are implemented within 48 hours of confirmation. While we do not publish individual change logs, all updates feed into our weekly review system to ensure long-term accuracy.

Editorial Independence

G1.ca operates independently from the Ministry of Transportation, DriveTest, and commercial driving schools. Our sole commitment is to public education and road safety. No external organization or advertiser influences our question content, editorial decisions, or update schedule. This independence allows us to maintain objectivity and uphold the trust of thousands of Ontario learners each year.

Questions and Feedback
